BRITNEY

The mockery of the American dream in 3 maybe 4 symbols: 1 In the left corner is an Eames chair. The concept for the famous molded plywood came into fruition around 1942 and was used to make light weight leg splints during WWII. Later the patented design was essential in the iconic Eames’ chairs. The Eames negotiated more contracts with the army and amassed a fair bit of wealth for their aircraft parts. The United States often claims its prosperity from the freedom its people enjoy or their penchant for hard work. In reality the country and its elite have a long history of profiting from war. A model still employed to this day. 2 Between 1938 and 1950 companies like GM, Standard Oil of California and Firestone Tire teamed up to gain control of transit systems in 25 major cities. Their efforts pulled out perfectly functional tram infrastructure to "make way" for cars and buses. The car is not so much a symbol of progress but of a wasteful, dumb conspiracy. Ironically a burning car is often at the center of protests. Which in my opinion is undeniable poetic and sick. 3 Back in the day I remember magazines like J14 asking female pop stars if they were virgins. WTF. #freebritney. The manufactured popstar and their curated values are tethered to the propaganda machine that upholds the American dream.
